NANOSTRENGTH® LEADING EDGE PROTECTION

 

 

 

 

All E-Props propellers in carbon have a leading edge protection in Nanostrength®.

 

Made by ARKEMA, Nanostrength® are additive to reinforce epoxy resin, with high energy absorbing capability. See here Nanostrength® data sheet.

 

The resin with Nanostrength® is injected in the leading edge during the manufacturing of blade in RTM (Resin Transfer Molding). It is completely integrated in the blade, without unsticking risks or materials incompatibility, and with a perfect respect for profiles.

 

This additive has been selected because the leading edge protection of the E-Props propellers CARBON range is more resistant as a stainless steel 5/10e, and more easier to repair in case of shocks.

 

The use of an E-Props propeller with leading edge protection in Nanostrength® resin presents no problem under the rain. All models for aircraft, ultralights, paramotors, UAV are equipped with this protection (propellers for ultralights / NG-D / PLUG'n'FLY / special propellers).

 

It has been developped for the UAV with Rotax 914 that we equip since 2008, and for ultralights and aircraft which are flying in Africa, on non-prepared airfields in laterite.

COMPARATIVE TESTS

 

Comparative tests have been made between a Nanostrength® leading edge protection and a stainlee steel 5/10e with a Charpy pendulum :

Deepth of the maximum impact :

- leading edge inox 5/10e = 2,1 mm

- leading edge resin Nanostrength® = 0,9 mm

 

Results : the leading edge resin Nanostrength® present much less important damages than leading edge inox 5/10e

 

The leading edge resin Nanostrength® does not lead either unsticking or electrolytic couple, and the possible impacts are very easy to repair.

 

 

=> thus Hélices E-Props has choosen the Nanostrength® resin for the leading edge of its propellers.

 

 

Impacts Garantee

Sure of the quality of its propellers, the E-Props team proposes the Guarantee Impacts. The leading edge protection is made in Nanostrength® (ARKEMA product injected in the blade). This material is very resistant, but it sometimes can have small impacts. The impacts furthermore of 10 mm marking the leading edge are repaired free of charge by Hélices E-Props.

For distant customers or for those who wish to make the repair themselves, the team can also send a kit of repair with a detailled procedure to proceed to the restoration of the leading edge; this operation is very simple and the obtained finish is perfect.
